The great Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round) and Nikolaj Lie Kaas (Department Q) lean into the mayhem in the outrageous new black comedy from award-winning writer-director Anders Thomas Jensen (Riders of Justice, Adam’s Apples). The film follows a bank robber who must unlock his brother’s lost memory to recover long-buried heist money.

Rural Denmark, present day. Anker (Lie Kaas), a career criminal with dreams of a never-ending holiday somewhere sunny, is released from prison after a fifteen-year sentence. Before he was put away, Anker pressured his brother Manfred (Mikkelsen) to hide the stolen money near their mother’s home, and only Manfred knows where it is. But while Anker has been behind bars, Manfred has developed dissociative identity disorder, convinced he’s John Lennon - and has forgotten the money ever existed. With the help of a psychologist, the brothers set out to recover the loot, but their journey spirals into something far stranger - and more revealing - than they ever expected…

For all its outlandishness and unpredictability, THE LAST VIKING finds genuine empathy amidst the dark humour, emerging as a warm-hearted comedy about identity and how we’re shaped by the stories others tell about us, and the ones we choose for ourselves.
